What are the factors that contributed to the success and failure of Steve Jobs as a technopreneur?

In different manners of life, humans experience success and failures. Success is a part of our evolution as a person and it is undeniably the greatest frustration of everybody. However, there can be no “success” if there are no failures. Failure, as people, we take it as the saddest moment of our life. But others with great understanding find it as a challenge. A challenge that was destined for us to prove how strong person we are and how great is our faith to HIM.
Going back to the movie “PIRATES OF THE SILICON VALLEY”, as a viewer, I have reflected with the different scenes shown in the film. Particularly, in the events where Steve Jobs has experience success and failures in life.

Factors that contribute to his SUCCESS:

  • ENTHUSIASTIC - Steve Jobs shows a good manner of being a keen businessman. He is raring to go higher and higher and that he is wholeheartedly wants to attain success in his business together with Steve Wozniak. Amazingly, Jobs find ways to sell their little cute computer (that he and Steve Wozniak have invented) despite of many rejections he had encountered. Then finally, a company had offered them big enough amount of money to buy their invention. And that was the starting point of their Apple Computers Company.

    • WISE – Building a better future for a business starts from a wiser strategy. Absolutely, Steve Jobs is a wise man. He knows what the necessities for his company are and that he wants the best out of it. In fact he chooses those persons that are eager to work for him cleverly but suddenly it was kind of filthy way. I, myself know that his intention on asking question “ARE YOU STILL A VIRGIN?” on the applicant means that what he want was a person that is not new in the field of computers and businesses. It seems that Steve wants an employee that has lots of experiences and is reflexive enough to follow his instructions. This particular line has strike me of thinking Steve Jobs is really a wise man:

Steve Jobs: What is this? This is like doing business with a praying mantis. You get seduced, and then eaten alive afterwards?

    • PERSON WITH AUTHORITY – Although Steve is a type of demanding employer, nevertheless, he handles everything on its right position. He talks with authority that he can easily negotiate with other businesspersons. Noticing him as businessman/technopreneur, I can clearly identify that his strategy on talking with other people is quite admirable. He knows how to make the flow of conversation defend his sides and make the opposite person believe him. What he did is good for having or proposing a business plan.

      • RESPONSIBLE (AS A BUSINESSMAN/TECHNOPRENEUR) – I was lured with the way of Steve’s handling a business. Funny but cute ideas have come up into my mind seeing his every action on all the process of the development on his Apple Computers. Others might say that he’s so abusive when it comes to his employee but then for me the way he did it is not blameful one. You might say I’m crazy, but Steve was just self destruct at the moment he acts like that because of the meditation (administering drugs into his body) he does. But I’m not saying that being an addict is good. My point is that if Steve was not self destruct he might have been so good to his employee, nevertheless, Steve still have to be blame on taking unprescribed medicine/drug.

Factors that contribute to his FAILURE:

      • PRIMAL SCREAMER - Steve Jobs becomes a primal screamer in the time that his Apple Computer has boom. He keeps on yelling and shouting on his employees and asking too much from their work. There are times that he feels like he knows everything and that he should be followed by everybody regarding on his demand for the company.

      • PERFECTIONIST – Everything that comes in and out of his company should be perfect in his eyes. His expected perfection should start from the works of his employees up to his own categories of hiring a new employee or applicants. It is indeed good to be a perfectionist sometimes, but he should have used it or put it in a manner where everything would be smooth and fine. Like no one would get insulted or abused.

Steve Jobs: Maybe fun is just fragments of existence with better packaging.

      • ATTITUDE– For me Steve Jobs, in the film is occasionally undergoing a personality disorder. From the time that he became successful, everything has change in him. No one can predict how he would act in some precise occurrences of different happenings. I can also say that he become so impulsive with the things that are triggering on his company’s downfall. Still, in the latter part, he was not able to manage it according to his desire.

      • INFORMAL/CASUALITY- Without doubts, everyone whom has seen the film would say that Steve Jobs is a type of a person with informalities. In the way he goes to his company or office, it seems like he’s just going to his room. He dresses like an untailored wears, dress in a short cut-jeans and bear footed with an apple carried on his hand. I excessively say that he is so disgusting. In addition, I can notice that he has no proper etiquette. Interviewing a new applicant with his feet lying on a long table and asking question out of no where like “ARE YOU STILL A VIRGIN?” . It might be that Steve is affirming a different meaning of the question, but still it is unacceptable as part of those necessary things that an employer must know about his employee.

      • DEADBEAT DAD – I might find this thing harsh as labeled to him. But this is my observation regarding on how he rejected his girlfriend that is currently carrying his baby inside her womb. In the field of business, Steve Jobs has greatly reach the torch of success; he shows the essence of responsibility on handling a certain establishment and even guarantees good products to his customers. But then great disappointment comes into my heart after seeing the particular scene where Steve Jobs refuses to accept the commitment driven out from the new formed cells in the womb of his girlfriend.
